GCA Annual Landscape Judging Held July 22, 2010
Each year we do this, it seems to become more difficult with so many places to try to select. Especially as our trees and shrubs mature – the flowers and creative landscaping (even no flowers at all) seem to set off our homes in spectacular ways.

Priscilla Patterson and Mary K Jones spearheaded this committee this year, and we toured our neighborhood several times before being able to try to make any decisions. For those of you who have created a certain oasis surrounding your homes – your efforts are appreciated by us all. We truly thank you for your efforts. For those who are a work in progress – keep up your good work. We all enjoy seeing the progress as you come along, and even though you may not get an award or recognition, we appreciate your goals!

We tried to select yards that are simple and elegant, those that have very traditional flowerbeds and lovely shrubs edging your yards, those that have an emphasis on water conservation, and those that are just so incredible it takes your breath away the more closely you look - with delicate plants, colors that coordinate, extra touches of stones and rocks with their placement among the trees and immaculate care of the total landscape around the home. Look to our top three awards for these!

All the yards receiving recognition this year each deserve taking the time to go see them. In July this year Mother Nature was good to us, and you will see our flowers at a peak, our yards looking great. A small reminder to those who don’t think it matters as far as taking care of your yard – cutting down those weeds – trimming up the grass - creates an overall impression of not only your home, but also the neighborhood.

Anneliese Ganzel, First Place GCA yard Judging,  with a landscape that has carefully groomed shrubs, pathways through the gardens, and the serene look of a Japanese garden is a joy to see.

The DelPortos, Second Place winners in GCA Yard judging.  The incredible placement of large rocks and small, ground cover that is blooming, and overall look is what we all aim for.
This one is a "must see".

The Nettles, Third Place in GCA Yard judging.  This is perfect example of a xeroscape yard and what you can do with it. Flowers are in bloom throughout the summer as some plants finish blooming, others are just starting.

Until next year – the yard pixies (judges) are at rest! We thank you for making the judging such a pleasure.
